February 18, 2024 See bottom of file for changelog. gokuma.neocities.org https://gokuma.neocities.org/download.html#Strife https://doomer.boards.net/thread/3491/strango5-dwango5-converted-strife-plus (Adapted from Dwango5.txt) STRANGO5.WAD v1.1 or rather ÄÄÄÄ ÄÄÄÄÄ Ä Ä Ä ÄÄ Ä ÄÄÄÄÄ ÄÄÄÄÄ Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä ÄÄÄÄ Ä ÄÄÄÄÄ ÄÄÄÄÄ Ä Ä Ä Ä ÄÄ Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä Ä ÄÄ ÄÄÄÄÄ ÄÄÄÄÄ ÄÄÄÄ ÄÄÄÄ Ä ÄÄÄÄ Ä ÄÄÄÄ Dwango5 converted and compatible with all versions of Strife, plus additional maps. (Note by Gokuma: Strango sounds awful. Stwango sounds funny. Taking the awful name and leaving Stwango free in case people start making wads of all or mostly new maps.) It's back again, another frag-filled compilation of the nation's best deathmatch WADS. With input from various parts of the country, this WAD contains 24 more of the best, most exciting and most played levels for multiplayer games. With new music ranging from Nine Inch Nails to Two Unlimited, I've added the best sounds to further enhance your gaming experience! All credit goes to the original authors of all 34 levels. Some levels were taken from other compilations, so I may not have the actual original filenames. However, the only credit I will take is for the time to organize the levels and adding the new graphics and music. Nothing contained in this WAD expresses the views or opinions of IVS/DWANGO. This WAD has been released by an individual and is in no form an official publication from IVS/yourmother/DWANGO. Map14 was so damn secretive in its normal functionality and to reach its exit, so I clearly marked all doors, except the real secrets. Also changed some of the impassible false walls to grates. Made others translucent. Map35 is original Map04: Plague #1 converted to Strife and goes to map05. Map36 is Marine1 for ports. Has HOM in vanilla strife1.exe. Maps 34 and 36 both exit to map01. Map37 Peek-a-Boom! for ports exits to map28. HOM in vanilla. Map26: Silenced Lamasery v2.0 by Gokuma (updated/expanded) Original version from 2003 was the first released custom map for Strife. Old v1.1 download has embedded Strife v1.31 demo: http://www.mediafire.com/file/3zw6hdlomcm84f7/lamasery.zip/file Updated/Expanded Doom version is map23 in Twango1.wad https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/deathmatch/s-u/twango1 Map27: Peek-A-BOOM! by Gokuma Forgotten Doom Deathmatch map from summer 2003. Found in an old DETH directory backup. Had to add some walls and delete some openings to get rid of HOM. Map28: DOOM: War Games by Emil Eisenhardt https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom/d-f/dmwargam Map34: Marine1 by Sergeant Daniel G. Snyder, USMC https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/themes/marines/marine1 Version fixed by Gokuma (but map exceedes vanilla Doom2.exe visplanes): Added walls to get rid of HOM in vanilla Strife1.exe. https://www.mediafire.com/file/qidu44s3adngplw/Marine1f.wad/file Map36: Marine1 without the walls. Map37: Peek-A-BOOM! for ports. Exits to map28. Falling Damage is disabled in Zmapinfo. There is no such option for Umapinfo and not sure any ports currently support both Strife and Umapinfo, except ones which read the better Zmapinfo. Wad contains GL nodes required by Veteran's Edition or for whatever port will use them. Vanilla Strife1.exe is hardcoded to run at a lower framerate in multiplayer. (They probably intended it to work better over IPX network internet services back in the dial-up days.) If you want some old IPX 4 player action over the internet, look up the Dosbox Deathmatch Club headed up by OpenRift who also leads Twango wad projects. Actually Strife and Hexen go up to 8 players. Decorate supporting Strife ports: https://zandronum.com/ (Best multiplayer) https://zdoom.org/downloads (LZDoom and GZDoom) (Can do multiple instance "splitscreen" in LZDoom only, up to 4 players) https://sourceforge.net/projects/rzdoom/ (more classic RZDoom) https://doomer.boards.net/thread/2260/k8vavoom-good-thing-dies-build https://www.vavoomengine.com/ (K8vavoom and old Vavoom also has Quake-style progs.) Sehacked supporting Strife ports: https://www.gog.com/game/strife_veteran_edition (supports sehacked) https://www.chocolate-doom.org/wiki/index.php/Downloads (supports sehacked) https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/source/svstr14b (supports sehacked) A dos Strife port? https://sourceforge.net/projects/doom-dos-ports/ Want a gameplay mod? Check out https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=848146577 Or try Weapons of Rebellion https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=32780 WoR was made for a very old GZDoom so it works in Zandronum. Or try what I've included in the decorate folder of this zip. For ports supporting sehacked Try patches included in this zip with the command line: whateverport -deh whatever.seh or apply the seh to vanilla strife1.exe with sehacked. Original Dwango5 music tracklist: https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Dwango5 NIN Hurt and tracks from Pretty Hate Machine replaced with improved versions by Doomkid. https://www.youtube.com/@DoomKid/videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G51wWkkaSQ0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5JjYbrcjQc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO_Tq3SEIB8 Dwango 5 Doom Intermission screen and music changed to Title/Logo in Strife Additional map midis/mus (with mapinfo): 25: NIN - Head Like A Hole (SM64 soundfont version) 26: Pantera - This Love 27: NIN - That's What I Get 28: Billy Joel - Pressure (Dwango5 intermission) 29: Phantasm Theme (midi by Balandin Dmitry) 30: Dark Halls (Doom E1M3) 31: NIN - The Only Time 32: Winnowing Hall (Hexen) 33: NIN - Ringfinger 34: NIN - Sin 35: Pet Shop Boys - It's a Sin (same as map04) 36: NIN - Sin 37: NIN - That's What I Get Without mapinfo support, In Vanilla Strife1.exe, Veteran's Edition, Chocolate-Strife, and SvStrife not all the music tracks are matched exactly and some are repeated to due to Strife's repetition. vanilla Strife1.exe additional tracklist: 1-24: mostly matched to Dwango5 but more repeated, mixed up, or missing 25: 2 Unlimited - No Limit 26: Pantera - This Love 27: NIN - Terrible Lie 28: Hitfloor.mid based on Energizer (CS mix) by Hit the Floor 29: Pantera - This Love 30: Dark Halls (Doom E1M3) 31: NIN - A Warm Place 32: Hitfloor.mid based on Energizer (CS mix) by Hit the Floor 33: NIN - Head Like A Hole (SM64 soundfont version) 34: NIN - Something I Can Never Have 35: Pet Shop Boys - It's a Sin (same as map04) 36: NIN - Hurt (SM64 soundfont version) 37: Nächstes Mal am Ende der Well by Valerie's Garten (Can get to map35, 36, 37 with -warp but not the rift cheat) Vanilla does not like the version of Head like Hole from Dwango5 or Doomkid's normal improved version. It handles the SM64 Soundfont version by Doomkid somewhat better. So map02 plays that in vanilla or ports without mapinfo support, while the normal improved version plays with mapinfo support. *Changelog* v1.1 February 18, 2024: Set skies more specifically in mapinfo. Strife only has two different skies, but I improvised something else for two maps in zmapinfo. Skies scroll in Zmapinfo. Umapinfo has no such feature. Fixed map01 sky typo in umapinfo, but supporting ports all use zmapinfo. Can't seem to do anything about vanilla Strife always using same sky whichout single player quest progression. Map15 now plays correct music with mapinfo. Map changes: More peasants and beggars instead of enemies in several maps. Enemies set to appear on less skill levels. 03 Less enemies. Damaging water pit made harmless with teleporter out. 05 Texture align. Fixed sector too tall for short door texture. 07 Center switches give bonus. 09 Less enemies. 08 Little more complex architecture of Dwango11 version but same things. 10 Little more complex architecture of Dwango11 version but same things.
