Demo versions 1.0 and 1.1 not included in this zip. Get them at https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/roguestuff/ These subfolders contain all files from v1.0 except the strife1.wad, voices.wad, and strife.avi And then each file as it's been updated through the versions. Every patch was used from http://www.doomworld.com/classicdoom/info/patches.php Even ones which were mislabeled. The v1.0 to v1.3 is really another v1.2 to v1.3 patch. The ones that say v1.1 to v1.2 are really v1.0 to v1.2. It doesn't seem there was ever a public release of a full v1.1. The demo v1.1 is older than the full v1.0. Updating the 1.2 CD to v1.3 was missing an update to sersetup.exe that people who updated from v1.0 CD to v1.2 to v1.3 got. That might have messed up some people trying serial or modem play. The v1.2 CD to v1.3 update is also missing the latest multi.txt and modem.str. Only the v1.2 CD had movie.bat. You can patch your Strife1.wad to different versions using Omniscient iwad patcher https://drinkybird.net/doom/omniscient Strife's multiplayer change history: demo v1.0 - only version with coop mode demo v1.1 - loses coop mode but you can spy with F12 on skill 1 only in DM full v1.0 full v1.2 - more stable, multiplayer runs at lower frame rate full v1.3 - better for watching v1.31 demos since F12 can still change views. full v1.31 - can no longer spy since F12 has been remapped to taking screens. Aside from the key changes v1.3 and v1.31 are nearly identical. They are even compatible with each other in multiplayer and can play back each other's demos. If you want to play the offical versions in multiplayer with regular frame rate you have to use v1.0 full or the older demo versions. Using teleport beacons will likely give inconsistency errors in v1.0 and older. In demo v1.0, the last person to exit a multiplayer game will most likely get stuck on the quit scenes while the music just continues to play. In that case, they'll have to alt+tab out and end the task. The lowered multiplayer frame rate in v1.2, v1.3, and v1.31 was likely intended to make internet play work better on ipx network hosting services back when people were still in dialup connections. V1.3 is best for watching demos since F12 still works for changing views, regardless of the skill the demo was recorded on. ***Source Code Restoration!*** https://bitbucket.org/gamesrc-ver-recreation/strife/src/master/ https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/127132-doom-and-strife-source-code-restoration/ ***Ceski version*** (with or requested by OpenRift) *Fixes weird mouse firing bug, making mouse fire as fast as keyboard. However, weapons may still not always be immediately responsive due to their ready frames having durations longer than 1 tic, but changing that would be altering the vanilla game and break the demo compatibility. *Disables the forced tic duplication in multiplayer. Should be regular framerate! *Still demo compatible with v1.3/1.31! Remaining issue in all versions? Only possible with sehacked modification and/or maybe a custom map script. https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Inventory_bounds_checking_error More notes on differences in oldest demo v1.0. Less stable exe. Sometimes just freezes up. Multiplayer more likely to give consistency errors. Only version with cooperative mode. Can see other player views with F12 only in cooperative on any skill. Unfortunately, talking to NPC's has always been disabled in multiplayer. Things are set to use Doom 2 sounds. Older versions of sounds and a sound not in any other version of Strife. Sigils behave a little differently. Picking up the items of them in multiplayer actually works consistently opposed other versions of Strife. Oracle has pain frames that look like death and has more life. Stalkers are very nasty. Sentinels shoot green lasers. The Loremaster can't fly. Gas Grenades partly implemented? Graphics are there. Secret exits work on levels maps 9, 11, and 31 and display a screen of text. But then they restart the level, except map11 takes you to map00. Kill the programmer in map09 for a screen of text instead of the cut scenes. This Strife exe uses Doom texture format and different scripts format. While Strife is up to 8 players (not sure if every version is though), Strife maps only contain cooperative starts 1-4 and they were always left in despite the mode being removed. Starts 5-8 do exist to be able to put in maps.
